Art of ASCII

About Art of ASCII

Art of ASCII is a free website that turns pictures and short pieces of text into character art. You choose a picture or type a word, pick plain ASCII, block or braille characters, set a width for the place you plan to paste, and copy the result as text.

Who it is for

People who post in chat and comment boxes, decorate a bio or a README, or like to see a picture drawn in a terminal. The site is written in US English and aimed first at readers in the United States.

What the site does and does not do

What Art of ASCII does: image and text to text art, copy or save; what it skips: uploads and sign-up
  • It converts a picture or text to characters in your browser. A picture is not uploaded to our servers.
  • It lets you copy the art or save it as a .txt file.
  • It does not ask you to create an account.
  • It is not connected to Discord, Twitch, Reddit or any other service it names; those names belong to their owners.

Who is behind it

Art of ASCII is run by the Art of ASCII Team, an independent editorial and development team. Pages are published under the team name. Where a piece of classic art carries an artist’s signature, we keep the signature with the piece and credit it.

How to reach us

Use the contact form for questions, errors in a page, or requests to credit or remove a piece of art. The form is the only way to write to us, so no address is published here.
